Since 1999, Theron Johnson has been teaching voice privately and directing the Voices of Triumph Choir at Alfred Street Baptist Church in Alexandria, VA. She is also the founder of Imagery Music, LLC, and excels as a lyric soprano, vocal coach, choir director, and music interpreter. Originally from Kansas City, Missouri, Theron earned her Bachelor of Music Education degree from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. She furthered her vocal studies in the Washington metropolitan area with Martha Steiger-Ellison, a protégé of Todd Duncan, the original Porgy from Porgy and Bess. Theron’s formal training was enriched by guidance from other renowned artists. Her performances have graced various venues across the United States, including appearances as a guest soloist for The Democratic National Committee and renditions of the National Anthem at multiple Washington Commanders (formerly Redskins) games. Alongside her performing career, Theron has served as a facilitator and voice coach for numerous choirs and events nationwide.
Theron teaches her students that the entire body engages in making sound. A “Mind, Body and Spirit” concept of instruction…a way to live emphasizing that the singer is a “wind instrument”. By implementing this concept, the student can stretch their mind in a myriad of ways…culturally, ethnically, and diversely.
A “Finding Your Voice” concept, a true play on words, “to speak, to sing!”
